Sheet Metal Weight Calculator

This calculator gives the flat-sheet weight of a rectangular part from its length, width, thickness and alloy — the same density values our quoting engine uses. Enter dimensions in millimetres; weights come back in kilograms and pounds. Holes, bends and cutouts are not subtracted.

Flat-sheet weight only. Holes, louvers, bends and cutouts are not subtracted, so a finished part weighs 2–8% less depending on how much material is removed. Freight quotes use the packed weight, not this number.

Densities used in this calculator

These are the same values our quotation engine uses, rounded to what our mill certificates state. If your drawing names an alloy that is not in this table, send the spec — we will quote the nearest equivalent we hold in stock.

Questions about sheet metal weight

Handbook densities for the alloys we fabricate, rounded to the values on our mill certificates.

How accurate is a flat-sheet weight calculation?

For a flat, uncut blank it is accurate to the density tolerance of the alloy — about 1%. A finished part with holes, forms and cutouts weighs less, typically 2–8% less depending on how much material was removed. For shipping weight we weigh the packed carton, not the calculation.

Does galvanized coating change the weight?

Yes, slightly. A hot-dip galvanized coating adds roughly 0.04–0.06 kg per m² per side at a typical 60–85 µm layer. On thin sheet that is a low single-digit percentage; on thick plate it is negligible.

Can you calculate weight for a formed part?

Send the STEP or DXF file and we return the unfolded flat weight plus the finished part weight from our CAD system — that is part of every quotation anyway, so there is no extra step.

Send the part, not the calculation

A quotation from WERIX includes the unfolded flat weight, the finished part weight and the material yield, calculated from your model with the same densities this tool uses.
