WERIX Metal replied · Jack, Mechanical Engineer

WERIX Metal replied · WERIX Metal

We have been through the phase where a supplier is cheap and then the phase where they are expensive, and these are the first ones where the price has stayed and the quality went up. The engineering reviews got sharper over the years, not…

Stainless guards, chutes and drip trays for a bottling line, 130 pieces, all 304 with a 2B finish. Wine is aggressive on anything that is not properly passivated, and their passivation certificate actually lists the bath and the immersion…

WERIX Metal replied · Jack, Mechanical Engineer

The bath on your parts was 20% nitric at 50 C for 30 minutes, which is why the certificate lists both figures. On 2B sheet that removes free iron without changing the surface roughness.

Clean room grade stainless panels, 304, brushed, 140 pcs. We needed the Ra value on the visible face documented and they measured it on every panel rather than sampling, which is unusual. The edges were rolled rather than sheared so there…

WERIX Metal replied · Jack, Mechanical Engineer

We measure Ra with a portable skidded gauge in three directions and take the worst of the three. 2B coil sits at 0.6-0.8 before brushing, so the 0.4 you asked for is a brushing spec rather than the coil.

Tier-1 automotive supplier · Germany · Purchasing & Quality

Progressive-die stamped mounting bracket assembly·Automotive / EV

Volume range
60,000 pcs / month
Tolerance
±0.05 mm
Material
SPCC 2.0 mm, zinc plated
Lead time
24 days per release

Challenge

The bracket had moved to a second supplier after the first die began producing burred pierced holes; rework had climbed to roughly 12% of each lot and the customer was paying for hand deburring on every shipment.

What we changed

We rebuilt the progressive die in our own tool room — 11 stations, revised punch-to-die clearance for the 2.0 mm SPCC, and a countersink station added inside the die so the chamfer no longer needed a second operation.

Result

Burr-related rework fell to 0.4% over the first three months of production. Removing the off-line deburring step cut piece cost by about 18% while tightening the pierced-hole tolerance to ±0.05 mm, and every release now ships with a first-article inspection report.

Data-centre rack OEM · United States · Manufacturing Engineering

19" rack side panels and PDU enclosures·Data centre

Volume range
4,000 pcs / shipment
Tolerance
±0.1 mm
Surface Finish
Powder coat, RAL 7035
Lead time
12 consecutive months on time

Challenge

Panels up to 1,200 mm long bowed slightly after the powder-coat oven, so rack assembly teams had to force panels into position and the finished cabinets showed uneven door gaps.

What we changed

We pre-stress-relieved the bends and moved the panels through the cure oven on a jigged rack instead of a flat tray, then added a flatness check with a dial gauge on a granite surface plate before packing.

Result

Flatness across a 1,200 mm panel is held within 1.5 mm, and 12 consecutive monthly shipments arrived on schedule with no flatness rejections. Panels and PDU enclosures now ship in the same mixed pallet, which removed one inbound handling step for the customer.

Control cabinet enclosures and harness brackets·Industrial automation

Volume range
300–800 pcs per order
Tolerance
±0.2 mm
Material
SPCC 1.2 mm
Lead time
3–4 orders per year

Challenge

The customer’s cabinet drawing placed ventilation slots directly beneath two internal mounting bosses, so the thread inserts would have broken through the slot edges during assembly — a fault only visible once the first cabinets were fitted out.

What we changed

Because the DFM review happens before quoting, our engineer flagged the conflict in the same 24-hour turnaround: the slot bank was shifted 18 mm, a stiffening rib added across the door opening, and the insert position adjusted without changing the cabinet envelope.

Result

No re-tooling was needed and the customer avoided rebuilding a batch of cabinets. Repeat order flow continued at three to four releases a year with the same drawing revision, and the rib addition removed a visible door flex that had been reported in the field.

304 stainless shielding plates for cleanroom tools·Equipment / semiconductor

Volume range
50–200 pcs per release
Tolerance
±0.05 mm
Material
304 stainless, 1.5 mm
Surface Finish
Brushed, Ra ≤ 0.8 µm

Challenge

Handling scratches on the brushed surface were being read as contamination during the customer’s incoming inspection, and each rejected plate had to be re-brushed and re-cleaned before it could be fitted.

What we changed

Brush direction is now fixed across the whole plate so the grain reads uniformly, both faces are masked with PE film immediately after grain finishing, and plates are packed individually in clean bags rather than stacked.

Result

Incoming inspection rejections dropped to near zero, and surface roughness is certified at Ra ≤ 0.8 µm on the inspection report that ships with each lot. The customer has since moved two additional plate families to the same drawing standard.

BESS module trays with heatsink brackets·New energy / BESS

Volume range
2,500 pcs / month
Tolerance
±0.15 mm
Material
SGCC 1.5 mm + anodised brackets
Lead time
18 days per release

Challenge

The original 2.0 mm tray showed measurable deflection under a 45 kg module during transit testing, and the extra gauge added cost and weight the customer’s mounting frame was not designed for.

What we changed

Our engineer ran a rib-pattern study with the customer’s load case, replaced the flat tray floor with a formed rib layout and switched the heatsink bracket to anodised aluminium, keeping the mounting hole pattern unchanged.

Result

The tray passed ISTA-3A transit testing on the first submission at 1.5 mm gauge, cutting tray weight by about 12% and removing the need for a mid-span stiffener. Volume has held at 2,500 trays a month across three module variants.
